Why Coaching?

What is life coaching?

At its core life coaching must deliver actual, tangible results. The change produced must be positive, provide an improvement, assist the client in doing better, being stronger and more able to overcome life’s issues. Life coaching will often move people from being a victim, to being a survivor to ultimately being a thriver.

Life coaching is a confluence of a number of other fields of human endeavour – drawing knowledge and experience from fields as broad as philosophy, psychology, neurobiology, education and religion. So it has a wide range of tools in the kit, and draws from a wide range of fields, but must now be distinguished clearly from other practices.

Where does life coaching fit on the human behavioural sciences spectrum?

Facilitating – is being a process expert – holding the form (hosting) so others can do the work

Counselling – is focusing on past, negative experience and past emotion (hurt)- it hopes for rescue

Psychology – is focusing on present behaviour and thinking routine – t hopes for survival

Consulting – is being a practitioner expert – paid for your advice (telling)

Training – is being a knowledge expert – paid for your understanding (teaching)

Coaching – is focusing on the future, positive experiences and by altering choices (behaviours)
